In March this 2004 we lost our good friend Roy.

The following was read at his Funeral.

Roy was a member of our club for 9 years, and during that time we rode with him all over the country, to rallies, camping weekends, pet food runs, toy runs and numerous other events.

He was a great character! We had a great deal of laughs with him, with his Cheeky smile and mischievous laugh, his attitude was infectious, he helped us see the funny side of most things.

We laughed when we went to the BMF rally at Peterborough, down the M6 and along the A14…not Roy! – He took Wendy the scenic route….down the M5!

He waved Wendy and the others off at Ironbridge on their raft, “see you in Bridgenorth” he said as he drove off in the car. Hours later Wendy and her crew arrived in Bridgenorth, hours later still….Roy turned up!

It was as an instructor that Roy was held in great respect.

Many of his friends and pupils will vouch for the fact that if Roy hadn’t trained them, they may never have had the confidence to put in for their test, let alone pass it.

My Son Matty was trained by Roy. He could ride already, but like most of us He didn’t relish the thought of having somebody following and watching every move.

Roy would start each lesson by saying “off you go then Matty” to which Matty would reply “same route Roy?”, “Yes”, he would say, “to your Mum’s for a cup of Tea”!!

But as they sat in our Kitchen, Roy would casually point out any errors on the way, they would finish their Tea, and then ride somewhere else. Matty started every lesson with the confidence of not having to think where he was going; only doing it properly.

That confidence, Roy gave him. He passed his test first time.

Your presence here today says more than I ever could about how we felt about Roy. He obviously touched many hearts.

Goodbye Mate.

(with respect from the Chairman of the Oddballs MCC).

A word from mike

I first met Roy about 4 years ago, straight from the start I noticed Roy had this beaming cheeky grin on his face and seamed to have a happy outlook on life. From the first time I met him, I never heard him say anything bad about anyone, and he always had time to talk to you, even if he had being having a bad day like we all do, there was always be that smile of his.

Roy had an ability to be always lighthearted, and would have fun with you but never at your cost.  He could be found to be having a real deep conversation to at times, and you could always argue an opinion with him without the conversation becoming nasty.  And unlike some people in this world Roy never had that “think they’re right”, but are not attitude. Roy always had the knack of telling & making the stories he told from some of his bike trainer days, and army stories interesting.

But there will always be one thing that sticks in my mind about him, and that’s Roy was one of those you would call a “true being”, no air’s, graces, or falseness about him.

I’m sure everyone in our club would agree in saying Roy was “one of the good one’s” and will definitely be missed.

May you rest and ride spiritually free where every you are Roy.
